Hafer Interior Designer Scarlett Bickett recently graduated from Leadership Owensboro with 29 other class participants. Leadership Owensboro is a talent development program the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce hosts every year. Each month, participants learn about a broad range of categories including education, healthcare, local government and more. Each course encourages participants’ diversity of thought, leadership development and community engagement.
Bickett was nominated to participate in Leadership Owensboro. “I was looking for a way to be more involved in the community and knew that it would be a great opportunity to learn and grow as a leader,” she says. Her favorite part of the program was Human Needs and Services Day where she learned about Owensboro’s refugee and homeless communities and poverty. Bickett describes the experience as “eye-opening” as participants were able to walk through physical scenarios of situations and challenges refugee and homeless communities may face.
She characterizes Leadership Owensboro as a program with lots of energy to give back to the community and enjoyed collaborating with different professionals from different professions. “People coming from all over allows everyone to bring different perspectives to the table and carry out productive actions in their respective fields,” she says.
Bickett’s involvement in Leadership Owensboro helps advance the city she loves. Some of her favorite projects at Hafer have been those in Owensboro, such as the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum and Kentucky Guitar Works. “I love Owensboro so much, and being able to contribute to any growth is an honor for me,” she says. “I hope my passion for Owensboro shines through my work!”
