Saint Meinrad Seminary & School of Theology
Bede Hall Renovation
Built in the 1950’s, Bede Hall has served Saint Meinrad Archabbey well over the years while it experienced a wide variety of uses. It was determined that the building needed a renovation encompassing improvements to infrastructure, the introduction of technological capabilities, the upgrading of access to five floors and the reworking of space for flexibility and better use. It was important to preserve the rich heritage of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, so the exterior restoration meticulously maintained the original character.
The interiors of Bede Hall were remodeled to include a 500-seat capacity theater, a new chapel to be used by groups or as a practice chapel for students, 37 guest rooms with lounge areas, two conference rooms with built-in technology and administrative offices. Life skills classrooms were incorporated that include a fully equipped teaching kitchen, living room and dining room. In addition, Hafer designed Bede Hall to be more energy efficient with new windows, roofing and insulation as well as updated mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
Since being renovated, group accommodations have increased tremendously for programs the School of Theology sponsors, seminary programs and summer youth programs. The repurposing of Bede Hall has helped Saint Meinrad Archabbey continue to grow and flourish.
