Chancellor Center for Oncology
The Chancellor Center for Oncology was built as the Gateway Medical Center campus was rapidly expanding. The new facility provides state of the art treatments for cancer - offering both medical and radiation oncology. They provide the full spectrum of care to make it convenient and beneficial for patients.
Due to the nature of the patients’ illness, it was important the design of this building promoted a calming, comforting atmosphere. Much of the building is given to spaces for contemplation and meditation. The design incorporated features connected to nature which have been shown to lower blood pressure and stress hormones in patients. Water features and an aquarium were incorporated into the interior while an exterior courtyard was built to provide a respite for patients. Natural light, introduced through large expanses of glass and skylights, is part of the overall concept of the building itself promoting healing. Research areas are also provided to the public to increase understanding about this disease.
The new medical facility incorporates leading-edge technology and treatment options in an emotionally and spiritually healing environment which was achieved through environmental elements such as natural light, a view of nature, less noise and a subdued color palette which can often be attributed to positive patient outcomes.
