Henderson County Public Library
Renovation & Addition
As technology and the world around us evolve, so do libraries. The Henderson County Public Library has been a pillar in the community for more than 115 years and desired to create a 21st Century library that would meet the needs of the community now and in the future. Hafer worked with library staff to determine requirements and understand the objectives to design a new library that the community would utilize in ways never thought of before.
In addition to remodeling the existing library, the project included a 20,500-sf addition. The children’s library was expanded to include more activity space as well as a new reading room with cascading seating stairs. A teen space was introduced, complete with a media wall and necessary equipment to host video game nights and other fun events.
The addition contains a 150-person community room with flexible dividing walls so one large event can occur or three separate events simultaneously. This room expands onto the balcony with stunning views overlooking the Ohio River. The project was completed in January 2021.
