The Lodge at Potato Creek
The design inspiration behind the Lodge at Potato Creek comes from the place it calls home – Potato Creek State Park. Located along the shore of Lake Worster, the 113-room lodge takes in all the elements of its surroundings with a tranquil, yet dynamic design. Clean architectural lines are a contemporary take on the horizontality of the area’s flat prairies and the verticality of natural growth, while vast windows reflect the still, picturesque lake. The lodge effortlessly blends into the landscape as if it were always there.
The theme is carried inside as guests are welcomed with rich, native textures; warm, inviting wood tones; and an abundance of natural light. An art piece inspired by the migration of native birds spans the lobby ceiling, a nod to something the park is known for – birdwatching. The birds also allude to a deeper meaning: Like the wings of a bird, guests are encouraged to explore their passions as they migrate through life.
Guest rooms immerse visitors even more into the park’s identity and offer a peaceful retreat after a day spent exploring the park. Natural elements are featured throughout the rooms in live-edge wooden headboards, handcrafted local artwork and furniture, native material finishes, and spectacular views of the lake.
Capable of hosting events large or small, the lodge offers full-service dining facilities and a conference and event center complete with a banquet room, meeting rooms and an expansive, wraparound patio. It has a gift shop, café and nature room for educational programs and nature exhibits. The lodge also is home to an indoor aquatic center, which includes a giant waterslide, bubble water couch for relaxing, zero-entry pool, lazy river area, a splash pad with a slide and an outdoor sundeck. Additional outdoor spaces – such as multiple fire pits, boardwalks and an amphitheater – allow guests to experience the outdoors around the lodge and to coalesce with nature.
The Lodge at Potato Creek is Indiana’s eighth state park lodge and inn; however, it is the first one built since 1939. A dream of many for several decades, and much excitement surrounds it becoming reality.
